Introduction
TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) in the UK and Ireland is a fast-growing branch
of TCS Ltd listed on the Bombay stock exchange in India. Globally TCS Ltd
employs 42,000+ people, 7,000 of whom provide services to UK clients, with
2,000 staff based in the UK. In September 2005, TCS was presented with the UK
Trade and Investment Recognition Award by Prime Minister Tony Blair, for
“outstanding contribution to the UK’s knowledge economy.” TCS provides ICT
consulting, outsourcing and services, and Business Process Outsourcing.
Customers include Aviva, British Airways, BT, Ferrari, Morgan Stanley, Nokia,
Prudential, Standard Life and Virgin.
Executive Summary
TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) was established in the UK by its Indian parent TCS
Ltd in 1975 and today is ranked among the world’s top 20 IT consultancies. There
are eight offices, including a development centre in Guildford (one of 32 the
company operates globally), while staff are based at some 42 client locations across
the UK. It is a measure of the company’s success that its global customer base
includes seven of the Fortune Top 10 companies, who “appreciate the delivery
model being used to provide them innovative solutions with maximum value at
optimum cost.”
TCS is profitable. Indeed 2004-05 was a year of milestones for the company. It made
an historic debut on the stock markets in August 2004. TCS ended the year with
another accolade in that it became the first Indian IT company to cross the $2bn
annual revenue mark, reinforcing its position as a pioneer and leader in this sector.
