Introduction
This web-site (the “Site”) is owned and operated by VNU Business Publications Limited ("VNU"). Respecting your privacy and ensuring the confidentiality of your personal information is critical to VNU. The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to ensure that we interact with you in line with current data protection legislation such as the Data Protection Act 1998 and in accordance with your wishes.
NB: This statement does not extend to web-sites that are linked to the Site. You should refer to the privacy policies of any such web-sites for further details about their use of your personal information.
The Site is not intended for individuals under 16 years of age. VNU does not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 16 via the Site.
By registering and/or using with the Site, you consent to the collection, use and transfer of your information under the terms of this privacy policy.
General Use of Your Information
VNU will use the contact and other details you supply as part of the registration process to provide you with the information and services you request either when you register with the Site or subsequently if you update your preferences at any time. In addition to any specific requests for information and services which you make, we will use your contact details to provide you with email updates regarding the Site and the products and services which you have requested. From time to time we may ask you for feedback on our services. By registering with the Site you agree that we may use your information in this way. Unless legally required to do so, we will not provide your information to third parties without your agreement.
You may cancel your registration with the Site and / or opt out from the receipt of information regarding any additional products and services from VNU at any time (see below for further details).
Aggregate statistical information gathered from VNU registration forms may be passed on to employers, advertisers or other parties from time to time. At no point will this include personal identifying information.
VNU may also make anonymous use of information to help diagnose faults, manage the system and gather broad demographic information about our users in general. This information will be stripped of all details that could identify you personally. For example, we may use IP addresses to help fix performance problems with our server.
Your Candidate Information and CV
Your Candidate Information and, if supplied CV, will be made available for searching, viewing and downloading by parties who register as potential employers, employment agencies and similar organisations (“Employers”) through the Site unless you tell us not to make your CV available to third parties. You will be asked whether we can make your Candidate Information and CV available to third parties when you supply it and you may amend your choice at any time (see below in this section). By following the instructions on the Site you can also choose to make your Candidate Information and CV anonymous, but still have the other details available to be supplied to Employers. If you allow your CV to be made available in either format we will supply the relevant details to Employers who request CVs matching your profile.
NB: Your current employer may register with the Site. Unless you choose to make your Candidate Information and CV anonymous or restrict access to your CV, your full Candidate Information and CV including your name and contact details may be made available to your employer if they request details of people with your profile. .
Some Employers may be located in countries outside the European Economic Area. Such countries may not have data protection legislation which protects the use of your personal data to the same extent as the UK although we will always take steps to try and ensure that your CV is used by Employers in accordance with this policy. If you agree that we may make your CV available to Employers, you expressly consent that we may transfer your information to Employers outside the European Economic Area who request details of CVs with your profile.
If you choose to supply Candidate Information and a CV, it is your responsibility to ensure that your details are kept up to date (see below for further details). You should update your Candidate Information and CV when any significant change takes place, particularly if your contact details change. We will contact you from time to time to ask whether you wish us to continue to display your Candidate Information and CV on the Site.
You may stop your Candidate Information and CV from being made available to Employers at any time. However, Employers who have already received a copy of your Candidate Information and CV may have retained a copy in their own files or databases. VNU cannot prevent the retention of your Candidate Information and CV by Employers in such circumstances.
VNU reserves the right at its sole discretion to prevent further access to CVs which VNU considers may in any way be misleading or offensive.
Whilst only bona fide Employers are entitled to register with the Site, VNU cannot guarantee the authenticity of any party who registers as such.
Email Updates
If you have requested that we supply details of employment positions which may be of interest to you, VNU will send you regular email updates of any positions which match your current employment profile. Please make sure that your Candidate Information and any CV you have supplied are up to date to ensure that you receive details of those positions which are most likely to be relevant to you.
Other Services
From time to time when entering this or other web sites operated by VNU you may be offered the opportunity to receive other services or information from VNU, its group companies or respectable third parties. In such instances you will have the choice as to whether or not you wish to accept the services and / or information offered and you should refer to the relevant privacy policy on the site in question for further information.
Employer Application Forms
In some cases when you apply for a position that you have identified via this Site, you will be requested to complete an application form that we deliver on behalf of the Employer. In such circumstances we have no control over the content of the application form or the use of any information which you supply once it has been forwarded to the Employer and you must therefore use your own judgement as to what information you choose to supply. Likewise, VNU does not in any way guarantee the accuracy (or suitability) of any information that is supplied to Employers as the result of their use of the Site.
Updating your Information/Terminating your Registration
You may review, correct or update your Candidate Information or CV at any time. To do so, simply log on to the Site and follow the relevant instructions.. You can then edit your details as required and you may also delete your CV by this method if you choose.
You may terminate your registration at any time. If you wish to do so, please follow the instructions on the Site.
Use of Cookies
VNU uses "cookies" to help personalise your use of the Site and to maximise the benefits available to you and VNU collects the minimum amount of information necessary in this regard.
A cookie is a small text file that is either stored in your computer’s memory temporarily (a “session” cookie) or placed on your hard drive (a “persistent” cookie). Cookies are used to collect information for VNU’s use only and no information that they gather is provided to third parties.
VNU uses session cookies which are not stored on your hard drive and which are used to collect some information about your system, including your IP address. Access to Your Information
You have the right to be told what personal information we hold about you on our databases. In your letter you must state your full name, your address and all publications and/or services from VNU to which you know you subscribe.
